And The Winner Is…Roosevelt!

Eastman Cooke Team

A 72-year-old newspaper recently found at Eastman Cooke’s project site in Hells Kitchen, NYC gave our team reason to pause and reflect on the history of the 111-year-old building they are converting, as well as note the remarkable coincidence in its headline.

The New York Times, dated November 9, 1944, covered the week’s presidential election. Just two days earlier, President Franklin D. Roosevelt had been re-elected, and went on to serve an unprecedented fourth term in office.

Our project team recently made this historic discovery while transforming this five-story, West side storage building into a state-of-the-art Surgical Center with additional medical offices. Seeing the date, we saved it to post today, the day after the 2016 Presidential Election and exactly 72 years later!
